Blogging has always been one of those tasks on my to-do list that somehow gets pushed aside. But this family and this session are exactly what made me want to break my blogging hiatus and finally share the magic that happens in front of the lens. Now that I have some time to catch up, I couldn’t think of a better way to dive back into blogging than by sharing one of my favorite sessions from last November.
Last November, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing one of my favorite families, who were visiting from Florida to experience the magic of Thanksgiving in the mountains of Breckenridge, CO. Even though they were escaping the warmth of the Sunshine State, they fully embraced the snow and crisp mountain weather, making their family session truly one for the books.
When I say it was magical, I mean it. It’s rare to have to reschedule sessions here in Colorado. The common saying is, “Don’t like the weather in Colorado? Wait five minutes.” But as their session date approached, it became clear that this late fall storm wasn’t going to simply blow through. We decided to push the session back by a day, and it turned out to be perfect timing. By the time we met for their session, the storm had passed, and the trees were draped in the most idyllic blanket of snow, creating the perfect winter wonderland backdrop. Even though it was technically still fall, you’d swear these photos were taken in the heart of winter!
This session quickly became one of my favorites—not just because of the stunning weather but because of the West family themselves. Some families make you feel instantly comfortable, like you’ve known them forever, and the Wests were absolutely those people. From the moment we started, it felt more like hanging out with friends than just taking photos. The conversation flowed naturally, laughter filled the air, and by the end of the session, I felt like we could have kept chatting long after the cameras were put away. There’s nothing better than clients who not only bring great energy but also make the session feel like a fun day spent with friends.
Beyond that, the love they had for one another was undeniable. Brothers Logan and Ethan were not only a joy to photograph but a joy to be around. It’s not every day you come across siblings who are as kind to each other as they are to their parents. These boys were so thoughtful and sweet, with moments of laughter and connection that made the entire session even more special. The bond between them was full of love and respect, which was so heartwarming to witness. (Also, so different from the chaos I’m sure my own parents dealt with during our family portraits!
Don’t even get me started on the love between Sandrine and Dave! Some of my favorite moments during family sessions are when I can steal the parents away for a few moments of just the two of them. When parents are into it, I’m into it! There’s something so beautiful about capturing those quiet moments of affection, and Sandrine and Dave didn’t disappoint. It’s so important to remember those moments are just as valuable during family portraits!
What made this session truly stand out was the laughter and genuine love that filled every moment. From playful snowball fights to quiet moments of holding each other close, every photo captured the joy, warmth, and connection this family shares. These candid, real-life moments are the reason I love being a family photographer in Breckenridge. It’s not just about the beautiful scenery or posed shots, but about capturing the real emotions and bonds between families. And the West family brought that to life perfectly.
Looking back at their photos, I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with such an incredible family. Their session is one of my all-time favorites, not only because of the stunning, snow-filled backdrop but because of the wonderful people they are. Families like theirs remind me of why I love what I do, and I feel truly lucky to have been able to capture their time together in Breckenridge.
If you’re looking to book a family session in Breckenridge, whether you’re escaping from warmer climates or you’re a local, I’d love to chat about how we can capture your family’s unique connection in the beauty of the mountains. Don’t hesitate to reach out and let’s create some magic together!
