When you are in Breckenridge, going on a hike is an absolute must! We have so many gorgeous places that put you right in the heart of nature. When you’re a parent, however, there is a lot of planning that goes into every adventure. You don’t want to pick an out-and-back only for your 6-year-old to reach the turn-around point and proclaim they simply can’t walk another inch. If you are looking for family hikes in Breckenridge, I have you covered! As a Breckenridge family photographer, I adore working with parents to help them find the resources they love. Here are some trails you should check out!
Swan Mountain Road, Dillon, Colorado 80435
Sapphire Point Overlook Trail is a pretty easy family hike that takes you on a 0.6-mile loop just outside Breckenridge. Throughout the entire trail, you’ll encounter less than 50 feet of elevation. Still, the views are phenomenal, making it a popular spot once the weather warms up. Just be sure to watch your step because there are a few steep drop-offs along the way.
Snowflake Life, Breckenridge, Colorado 80424
Sawmill Reservoir is another easy family hike that takes you just a little bit farther in Breckenridge. This 1.3-mile loop gives you 236 feet of elevation. You can do just this trail, or you can add to it with the Snowflake Trailhead. Be prepared to encounter quite a few other hikers as well as leashed pups!
1599 County Road 3, Breckenridge, Colorado 80424
Cucumber Gulch gives you a lovely hike amidst Colorado’s wildlife. As you go around the 2-mile loop, you might see animals such as elk, fox, deer, and tons of different bird species. This trail is open year-round with strict rules that keep it pup-free, for better or for worse!
Airport Road, Breckenridge, Colorado 80424
Iowa Hill is a 0.7-mile loop that packs a bit of a punch for a Breckenridge family hike. Over a short amount of time, you will hit 187 feet of elevation gain. While it’s not that bad during the warmer months, most hikers bring snowshoes to make the trek during winter. It tends to be a bit less crowded than some of our other trails, too, so your child can run around as much as they’d like.
4192 CO-9, Breckenridge, Colorado 80424
I’m going to be honest with you. McCullough Gulch Trail can be kind of tough. It’s a 6.3-mile out-and-back with 1,600 feet of elevation, making it a better choice if your kids are a little older. If you can stick it out, however, you are going to be rewarded with phenomenal views, including mountains and cascading waterfalls.
